FAQ -- Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a new Macintosh version?
Yes and No. CD's published prior to the year 2000 are Macintosh compatible with OS versions prior to X. These are available upon request.

Is there a manual?
Yes. The manual is an interactive online manual. Press the F1 key for help. Also there is a 500 page manual on the CD. There is also a readme file on the CD. Quick Start tips are at the beginning of each installed CD.

Why can't I see page images?
This mostly concerns the Essex CD - 2004 Edition. This CD contains the most recent Folio VIEWS software. If you install older software over it afterwards, you will not be able to see the page images for Essex. Install the Essex CD last.

Why won't my pre-year 2000 CD's run on Windows XP?
CDs published prior to the year 2000 use Folio VIEWS version 3.xx, which is a 16-bit search engine, designed for Windows 95/98. CD's published after the year 2000 use Folio VIEWS version 4.xx, which is a 32-bit search engine, designed for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. If you have upgraded your computer, contact us for an upgrade of your CDs.

Why do I have to re-install some CDs each time I want to run them?
You may not have followed the installation instructions that came with your CD set. To work properly, all CDs must be installed in the same folder. Uninstall and re-install all CDs into the same folder.

How do I replace a damaged or out of date CD?
Email us. CDs have a one year replacement guarantee - even if the dog chews it. After a year there is a small replacement charge.

Are the CDs available for searching on the Web?
Not yet.

Can I install the CD's data on my computer's hard drive instead of having to put the CD in my computer every time I want to use it?
Yes. First: Make a folder on your hard drive for the CD collection. We recommend naming the folder "Mass CDs" or something similar.
Second: Make a folder inside the "Mass CDs" folder for each county CD. We recommend naming the folders after the name of the CD. i.e. Cape Cod, Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, etc.
Third: Copy each CD into its folder.

Fourth: Install from the folder where you copied each CD. Follow the installation instructions that came with your CD set.

How can I get additional help?
Email is the best way. Be precise and specific as to your problem or question. Please include your computer's make, model, and operating system, the title of the CD and its copyright date. Also include your telephone number if you would like us to call.
